BT Group Plc., the company delivering the 2.3-billion-pound ($3 billion) project, has been pulling equipment from the Chinese tech giant out of its own core structure since the 2016 acquisition of mobile carrier EE, which used Huawei gear throughout its systems. That work extends to the Emergency Services Network EE has been building for Britain, though some Huawei parts will remain in the broader access network. While BT says it’s been an ongoing process to remove some Huawei gear and the ESN decision aligns with a long-standing corporate policy to keep the Chinese company out of the core, critics of Huawei will be emboldened by the step to limit its involvement. Huawei has come under fire from governments globally over fears its equipment could enable Chinese spying.

The firm, which has always denied connections with the state and any espionage risks, has been dragged into a trade war between the U.S. and China, with American officials trying to persuade allies to block the tech company from rollouts of next-generation mobile networks. Australia, New Zealand and Japan have all followed the U.S. in imposing bans against Huawei in recent months, and concerns have been raised by authorities in European countries including the U.K., Germany and France. Fully replacing Huawei parts in the core part of the network will take up to four years, with BT footing the bill. A government spokesman told the Sunday Telegraph -- which first reported the ESN action -- that while Huawei parts would be removed, it was content the emergency systems infrastructure does not pose a security concern. “We have ongoing plans to swap to a new core network vendor for Emergency Services Network, in line with BT’s network architecture principles established in 2006,” an EE spokesperson said in emailed comments.

“This will be managed with no disruption to the ESN service.” A Huawei spokesman told the Telegraph the company had worked with BT for 15 years and that the British carrier had a longstanding policy to use different vendors for different network layers. BT said Huawei remained an important equipment provider, according to the report. (Updates where Hauwei gear is being removed in first, second paragraphs.) The G6 Play‘s chunky bezels have been slimmed down for the G7 Play, with a much smaller forehead and chin. According to the ruler in the first image, the Moto G7 Play looks to be a smaller overall package than the G6 Play. There’s still only a single-lens camera on the back, but it will come with a USB-C port. The Moto G7 and G7 Plus will sport a similar look. Renders of the phones, courtesy of Slashleaks, show the phones are a big departure from 2018’s Moto G6 and G6 Plus.

Slash Leaks Like their predecessors, the front of the G7 and G7 Plus appear to be all display, but now come with the addition of a notch and the removal of the front-facing fingerprint scanner. The Moto G7 will reportedly have a 6-inch FullHD+ display, while the G7 Plus will sport a 6.4-inch screen. And while it looks like the chin bezel will make a return appearance on the 2019 smartphones, the top bezel has been replaced with a teardrop notch. Both the G7 and G7 Plus appear to have a glass backplate, though it doesn’t look like there will be wireless charging. A prominent dual-camera array and fingerprint sensor sit toward the top center of the phones.

Probably. Evan Blass evleaks Lenovo may have cut the Moto C, M, & X lines this year, but next year is going to see a record number of Moto G models: Standard, Play, Plus, and Power. 568 8:42 PM - Oct 4, 2018 Twitter Ads info and privacy 114 people are talking about this Twitter Ads info and privacy In October 2018, respected mobile leaker Evan Blass tweeted we could expect to see four versions of the upcoming Moto G7. In addition to the typical players, Blass said there would also be a special Power Edition. Previously, My Smart Price a story stating there would only be two versions of the upcoming smartphone: The Moto G7 and Moto G7 Plus. That story seems to be wrong, as FCC certification for the Moto G7 Play has surfaced.

This means we’ll likely see the Moto G7, G7 Plus, and G7 Play, as with most other years. Specifications and camera Most of the hardware information we have on the upcoming Moto G7 and G7 Plus was gleaned from information on the Federal Communications Commission website. Listings for two model numbers, XT1952-2 and XT1965-3, are believed to be the G7 and G7 Plus. Specifications have also now appeared for the Moto G7 Play, and they suggest that phone will continue to be the entry-level runner for the range.

Geeksphone details its dual-OS wielding handset, the Revolution

The filings suggest the G7 and G7 Plus phones will have nearly identical specs. Both appear to have a Snapdragon 660 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage as a base option. That’s a pretty significant processor bump when compared to the Snapdragon 450 processor in the G6, but much more modest when compared to the Snapdragon 630 that runs the G6 Plus.

It seems the G7 Play will be seeing a fairly major specs bump, too. The FCC filings suggest the Snapdragon 632 will be the phone’s CPU, with an Adreno 506 GPU. If true, that’s a major upgrade to the G6 Play’s Snapdragon 430. The battery may be a disappointment, however, being just 2,820mAh. There’s not a lot of information about the camera just yet. We do expect both phones to have dual sensors on the rear and a single selfie-cam. My Smart Price claims the G7 and G7 Plus will have a 12-megapixel front-facing camera along with 16- and 5-megapixel dual sensors — we’d definitely take those numbers with a grain of salt at this point since we’ve not heard similar specs from other sources. Software Julian Chokkattu/Digital Trends Although many manufacturers choose to use older versions of Android in their budget phones, Lenovo typically bucks that trend. According to Android Authority and several other sites, the upcoming Moto G7 range will ship with Android 9.0 Pie. In addition to Motorola’s near-stock version of Android on its G-series smartphones, there are a few additional features that are actually useful.

There are no rumors regarding price, and LG does not usually reveal how much a phone costs at all, often leaving that job to carriers. Design and screen Julian Chokkattu/Digital Trends What will the LG G8 look like? The screen may change from having a wide, square notch to a water droplet version, in a similar shift to the one implemented by OnePlus for the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T. LG is also said to be working on display technology, where the speaker is eliminated and replaced with an in-screen speaker system. However, this may not be ready until later in 2019, according to other reports. The LG G8 ThinQ’s screen may also have an impressive resolution.

LG may use a 4K LCD screen on the G8, according to an unsubstantiated rumor from phone leaker Ice Universe. Specs Julian Chokkattu/Digital Trends Since the LG G8 ThinQ will be one of LG’s 2019 flagships, we’re fairly confident the phone will have top-of-the-line specs, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. However, we should not expect the LG G8 to have 5G connectivity, as LG is rumored to be introducing a range for this purpose. There are no leaks around RAM and storage options for the LG G8 ThinQ yet. If we had to venture a guess based off the LG G7 ThinQ and smartphone trends, we would say at the base model of the LG G8 ThinQ will have 6GB of RAM and a 128GB of onboard storage.

Currently, most bezel-less smartphones have a tiny speaker in the very top edge — take a look at the OnePlus 6T, for example, to see how invisible this can be — but by using an in-display speaker system, this could be removed entirely. Both Korean and Chinese display makers are expected to show screen panels and smartphones with, “surface sound display technology,” at CES 2019, according to the report. The devices and screens will likely be prototypes, and not final production ready pieces, and may also only be shown behind closed doors.

CES is a trade show, and in addition to showing the press and other attendees the latest products, manufacturers use it to strike deals related to future products. We have already seen examples of how in-screen speaker technology works. The original Xiaomi Mi Mix and the Vivo Nex S — a device originally shown as a prototype, the Vivo Apex — both use piezoelectric transducers behind the screen to send audio waves through the entire display itself.

Put your ear against the phone, and you will hear sound as normal. Use it on loudspeaker mode, and the display becomes the speaker. It’s clever stuff, but in both cases while the technology worked, it required refinement. Interestingly, the report claims sound travels better when the technology is paired with an OLED panel, rather than an LCD. Samsung has already shown off the basis of a next-generation version of this technology which it calls Sound on Display, that’s often shortened to the rather unfortunate acronym SoD. LG has used similar technology in panels destined for use on televisions. However, the South Korean report says a Chinese company is hard at work developing surface sound display technology, and it may be ready for the public during the second half of 2019.

How to install Fortnite on your Android phone

How to install Fortnite on your Android phone

Primarily it’s there because it gets noticed less, mainly because on Android the battery and time is usually displayed on the right, thus drawing visual attention away from the left. Placing it on the left also makes sense for mobile gaming. With the phone in landscape the punch hole is obscured by your hand, leaving an untouched full screen viewing experience. Through surveys, Honor said the punch hole was the most favored design to hide the front camera when compared to both the regular notch and the central teardrop notch. The punch hole was liked by 47-percent, and found acceptable by 38-percent of respondents.

How to install Fortnite on your Android phone

Only 15-percent disliked it, while the regular notch was disliked by 23-percent. The central teardrop notch was viewed as acceptable by 56-percent, but fewer people liked it outright. The complex screen has 18 different layers, including the TFT, filters, polarizers, adhesives, and the light guide. The look is much less intrusive than a large notch at the top of the screen, and we like the improved look in landscape for gaming.

Comparing Key Factors In cell phones - How to install Fortnite on your Android phone

But question marks remain over how the camera hole will affect Android notification icons along the top of the screen, which are already adversely affected by the notch. This aside, the All-View Display and hole punch camera design looks like a step in the right direction. Size and technology Not all in-screen cameras and the screens around them will be born equal. To explain, Honor revealed it has engineered the punch hole in a unique way, and made it smaller than you may think. It’s just 4.5mm on the All-View Display, making it less noticeable than any notch we’ve seen before.

A Look At Effective Solutions Of smartphone - How to install Fortnite on your Android phone

The Galaxy A8s’s hole punch is larger at 6.7mm. You may also expect the punch hole to drill down through all layers of the screen, but this is not the case. Doing so lowers reliability, reduces attractiveness, and forces larger borders, Honor told Digital Trends. More cutting-edge smartphone tech A completely drilled through hole introduces light leakage around the edge too, affecting camera performance.

How to install Fortnite on your Android phone - Clarifying Simple Methods In mobile phones

This is an important point. While we may all focus on how attractive the notch and its alternatives look, they have to perform a function — facilitate the use of a selfie camera — and if they don’t do that part well, we’ll have another reason to dislike them, and yet another if the screen breaks because of them too. What has Honor done? The complex screen has 18 different layers, including the TFT, filters, polarizers, adhesives, and the light guide.

How to install Fortnite on your Android phone

Honor only penetrates the light guide plate for its punch hole, leaving all the other layers untouched. Reliability is increased, but more importantly, Honor said the selfie camera performance is unaffected. Visual consistency across the range?

Like it or not, in one form or another, the notch is everywhere. Neither Honor nor Huawei has been consistent with its use of notch over the past months, using a large notch on the Mate 20 Pro, a tear drop notch on the Mate 20 and Honor 10 Lite, and even a slider on the Honor Magic 2. Is the hole punch just another attempt at visual differentiation, but with little regard for a family look? In other words, is this another notch-style to add to the list? 1. Huawei Mate 20 Pro 2. Huawei Mate 20 Pro 3. Honor Magic 2 4. Honor 8x Apparently not. The hole punch display will bring about a more cohesive look across the range.

It’s a good mix of of price, attractiveness, and functionality, Honor told Digital Trends, but added it’s not the final solution. In other words, expect it to be replaced again in the future, as technology moves forward. It’s not going to replace other notches completely. Sometimes features dictate the use of a larger notch — a structured light sensor is needed for high-level face recognition for example — so notches are not going to disappear.

But the hole punch is going to be a favored approach in the near future. It’s even coming to lower cost Honor phones, including the X series. The existing Honor 8X has a mid-size notch at the top of the screen.

Tap on it, and you’ll see a history of the songs identified by the phone sorted by date. Even better, tap on one of the songs, and you’ll get direct access to play the song on any installed music service like YouTube Music. This is also a good time to make sure your Ambient Display is turned on so you can see these music alerts by heading to Settings > Display > Advanced > Ambient Display. Turn on fingerprint gestures The fingerprint sensor on the back of the Google Pixel 3 does more than just unlock your phone.

Best smart outdoor security cameras (2018)

You can swipe your finger down or up on it to pull the notification drawer down or push it up. It’s especially handy on the Pixel 3 XL, where it can be hard to reach the top of the large 6.3-inch screen. It’s turned off by default, so here’s how to toggle it on: Head to Settings > System > Gestures > Swipe fingerprint for notifications and tap the toggle. Now swipe down or up on the fingerprint sensor, and you’ll see the notification drawer magically move up and down. Tweak Active Edge Google’s Active Edge feature that lets you squeeze the sides of the phone to activate Google Assistant makes a return.

You’ll be prompted with the option to configure this during the phone’s setup process, but there’s a way to tweak the sensitivity afterward. You can also turn it off completely if you want to just rely on pressing and holding down the home button, or on tapping the Assistant icon in the Google bar. Head to Settings > System > Gestures > Active Edge. Here you can manually move the dot on the slider around to require a firm or light squeeze to activate Assistant, and there’s an option to turn it off completely below, or to make it work even when the screen is off. Active Edge isn’t purely to access Google Assistant either. You can squeeze the phone to silence an alarm, timers, notifications, and incoming calls, and you can toggle this off in the same screen.

Turn on Flip to Shhh, and Digital Wellbeing One of the software features exclusive to the Pixel 3 and 3 XL is ‘Flip to Shhh,’ which, as it sounds, silences your device when you flip the phone on a table (display facing down). It’s a quick way to turn on Do Not Disturb, especially if your phone is vibrating loudly in a meeting or interview. Head over to Settings > Digital Wellbeing > Flip to Shhh and toggle it on. Alternatively, the setting option is also available in Settings > System > Gestures > Flip to Shhh.

While you’re in the Digital Wellbeing menu, we recommend taking a look at Google’s options to help curtail smartphone usage. We don’t think app timers are too useful (unless you’re setting one up for a child), but we do recommend turning on Wind Down, which will turn the display to grayscale at night and will automatically turn on Do Not Disturb mode. It’s a great way of staying off your phone before bed, and not getting distracted. Just tap Wind Down, choose a start and end time, and you can whether you want Do Not Disturb turned on, as well as a grayscale screen, or even whether the phone should turn on Night Light (which turns the screen yellow to protect from blue light). Choose a device theme There’s no full on “dark mode” in the Pixel 3, but there’s a way to make the app drawer and notification drawer a darker color.

Best smart outdoor security cameras (2018)

It’s easier on the eyes when you’re in a dark room and don’t want to be blinded. By default this setting is on “Automatic (based on wallpaper),” which means if you have a dark wallpaper, the notification and app drawer will swap to a dark theme automatically, and vice versa if you have a lighter wallpaper. If you want to manually configure it, just head to Settings > Display > Advanced > Device Theme > and choose Light or Dark. Lockdown your phone quickly There are several ways to have your phone bypass the lock screen.

You can set up Smart Lock, so your phone will not ask you to unlock it when you’re at home, or you can set it to trust connected Bluetooth devices so your smartwatch or headphones will keep your phone unlocked. But there may be a few moments when you may want to quickly lock down your phone to make sure no one can access it without your lock screen password.

Instead it’s primarily targeted at those who need a headset that they can comfortably wear for longer periods of time during the working day. As a result it’s not exactly a thing of beauty to look at, although we can let that pass if it turns out to be ultra comfortable to wear. This model is much larger than your average headset and looks quite different too. It’s more of a cross between a normal mobile Bluetooth headset and the type of wireless headset that call-centre workers use. It has a long, curved boom that houses the mic and connects back to the earpiece, which is in turn is attached to a thick earpiece that houses the battery. The Plantronics Voyager Legend UC ear hook and boom both swivel through 180 degrees to allow the headset to be worn on either ear. Despite its size, the whole thing weights just 18g, so it doesn’t actually feel all that heavy when its sitting on your ear. It comes with three different sized ear gels, so no matter whether you’ve got petite or jumbo-sized lug holes, you should be able to get a reasonably comfortable fit. Changing an ear gel is very straightforward – you just push in on it, rotate it anticlockwise and it pops off. There are just four buttons provided for controlling the headset. On the rear of the boom you’ll find the call handling button, and further along on the bottom of the boom there’s a multifunction button for activating the voice controls, muting the mike, or starting and pausing streaming audio from your phone. The other two controls are mounted on the rear of the ear hook. At the top there’s a slider switch for turning the volume up and down, and below this there’s another switch for turning it on and off. What we don’t like, however, is that Plantronics has done away with the standard microUSB charging port found on the Voyager Pro. replacing it with a proprietary magnetic port instead.

michaelny2001`s

The Plantronics Voyager Legend UC comes with both a simple charging lead and a desktop charging dock that work with this port. Although the magnetic charging port is undoubtedly clever, as the headset almost magically snaps into it when you bring it near the charging peripherals, it’s also annoying. Mainly, when you’re out and about or away on business, it’s one more adaptor you’ll need to remember to take with you – and which they’re unlikely to have a spare of at the other end of your journey if you forget. What started out as a peripheral and software add-on package for the PDA then became a standalone device in itself.

Thoughts On Convenient smartphone Advice - michaelny2001`s

But this hugely successful gadget could be supplanted by the evolution of what it replaced – the smartphone – as the power of the mobile increases. TomTom has clearly seen this one coming, and launched a range of car mounting kits including this, the TomTom Hands-free Car Kit for iPhone. Not all of them are for Apple devices, either, in anticipation of the TomTom for Android app version due in October. However, the one we are reviewing here is still focused on the iPhone, and replaces the original TomTom for iPhone Car Kit, although it’s not quite a direct replacement.

The Options For Easy Solutions For smartphone - michaelny2001`s

Related: iPhone 7 release date, s and rumours Design The Hands-free Car Kit is of noticeably sturdier build than the original Car Kit. Not that the latter was flimsy – far from it – but this goes even further to house your beloved Apple smartphone in the manner it deserves. The kit is designed to accommodate every iPhone from the original version up to the latest iPhone 4S. However, the kit does lack something important from the original – the GPS receiver. So any remaining users of the original iPhone will be better off getting the first Car Kit, if they want to use a satellite navigation app, although this point is a bit moot as the lack of recent iOS updates will probably be more of a hindrance. You can still get the original Car Kit, although now it is being marketed for the iPod Touch only, as it’s not designed for the iPhone 4 body.

Night Sight arrives on all Pixel phones with latest Google Camera update

Any water resistance disappears along with its integrity, and as the watch needs to be charged regularly, there’s a decent chance you’ll end up causing minor damage to the seal after time. Sony says the SmartWatch 2 battery lasts for up to four days, but we found the battery stamina less than this. It generally lasts two days once you’re tooled up with notification-producing apps. Sport watches like the TomTom Multisport may die quickly if used for their main GPS-tracking role, but use them as a watch and they’ll last for ages. In comparison, the SmartWatch 2 is not the most reliable of watches.

Night Sight arrives on all Pixel phones with latest Google Camera update

Setup is also a little awkward. The SmartWatch 2 has NFC for quick pairing, but as most Androids out there still don’t have the feature we tested the watch with the NFC-less Motorola Moto G. Pairing is easy enough – done so within the Bluetooth monu of a phone, but the succession of extra software that has to be installed following this is laborious. You need to install two separate apps to even get your phone to recognise the watch properly – Smart Connect and a special provisioning tool for the SmartWatch 2. Even with these installed, the watch isn’t ready to do much of anything. Almost no features are actually built into the SmartWatch 2 beyond the clock and torch (which is hilariously – but predictably – nothing more than a white screen).

When not in use, a non-backlit clock face is shown (you can pick between 10). This uses some power, but nowhere near as much as a fully lit screen. It’s not quite as clear as a ‘normal’ watch, though. Now, onto the apps. ONSEPTEMBER 3, 2013EDIT "HTC BOOMBASS REVIEW | TRUSTED REVIEWS" HTC BoomBass Review | Trusted Reviews What is the HTC BoomBass speaker?

Night Sight arrives on all Pixel phones with latest Google Camera update - News On Straightforward accessories for smartphones Methods

The HTC One was a phone that raised the bar for phone speakers, featuring a pair of BoomSound drivers that sit to each side of the screen for a proper stereo image. The HTC BoomBass ups the sound quality of these speakers further. It’s effectively a subwoofer for an HTC One, HTC One Mini or HTC Desire 601 that doubles as a phone stand. HTC BoomBass – Design and features The HTC BoomBass is a little cube-shaped speaker, an innocuous accessory for your big shiny phone that’ll look cute on a desk or bedside cabinet. When not holding a phone it’s a plain plastic cube, but the bottom slides out along a rail, letting it turn into a phone stand.

Effective smartphone Methods - Night Sight arrives on all Pixel phones with latest Google Camera update

This is an optional extra – if you want it to stay a dinky little cube, it can. The HTC BoomBass uses Bluetooth to communicate with the phone, and has NFC to make pairing with a phone quicker and easier. As such, it works just like many of the Bluetooth speakers of this year. The speaker’s grille is on the top of the BoomBass box, and there’s a little port on the rear of it to improve the bass response – which is what this accessory is all about. The HTC BoomBass has an internal battery charged through a microUSB port on the rear, making it an effective portable speaker. Of course, its cuboid shape means it is a chunky little beast.

%title%

HTC BoomBass – Sound Quality In terms of specs at least, the HTC BoomBass seems to have its sound quality cred down. It uses the aptX codec, which transmits music at a higher bit-rate than ‘standard’ Bluetooth. Of course, in reality it’s overkill in a box like this.

Bluetooth quality loss is most noticeable in the treble register – which the BoomBass doesn’t handle – and any device of this size, sound quality is limited primarily by the size of the driver. HTC couldn’t tell us exactly how big it is, but given the size of the box it’s unlikely to be much more than two inches. That’s pretty small for a bass driver. However, it does work. The HTC BoomBass speaker significantly increases the beefiness of the HTC One’s sound, making it sound more powerful, if not exactly room-filling.

It’s important to manage your expectations with the HTC BoomBass, though. It’s a neat little thing, but as it matches its output with the BoomBass speakers of the phone it’s paired with, volume output is always going to be limited. Early Verdict: a neat idea, but is it worth the money? The HTC BoomBass is a neat idea, and a solid extension of what HTC got right with the HTC One BoomSound speakers.

HTC exec explains why the One M9 carries over industrial design from the M8

HTC exec explains why the One M9 carries over industrial design from the M8

Considering the RE app has a timelapse feature, this is a bit of a problem – if you want a long-term lapse, that is. Barring a metal ring around the lens, the RE is plastic. It’s a good-quality, hardy plastic that has managed to remain scratch-free in spite of often getting tossed in a bag or pocket. This is a well-made little product – all the more useful thanks to its water resistance. The RE can stay under up to 1m of water for no more than 30 minutes. You won’t go scuba diving with HTC’s camera, but you can feel safe using it on the beach or a typically muddy Glastonbury Festival. There’s no cover on the Micro USB port, but the microSD remains free of the wet stuff thanks to a rubber-sealed flap.

HTC RE – App If you do want to see what you’re shooting, or to take a shot remotely, you need to use the built-in Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi to connect it to your phone. This isn’t a camera designed just with HTC mobiles in mind, though. The RE’s mobile app is available for iOS and Android, so you can use it with the iPhone 6 or Samsung Galaxy S5, just not Windows or Blackberry ones. Connecting to the RE can be tricky, but the app works well once you’re in You need to first open the RE app, which connects your phone to the RE via Bluetooth, then you need to access your Wi-Fi settings to find the RE. There’s no Wi-Fi pass through, which means you’ll have use your mobile data connection for live streaming or backing up online. The whole process is a little convoluted and irksome.

HTC exec explains why the One M9 carries over industrial design from the M8 - Exploring Necessary Factors In accessories for smartphones

Connection isn’t guaranteed, either. We found we had to constantly connect our RE as a device, adding a password with annoying regularity on both iOS and Android. A firmware update has improved stability significantly, but it still sometimes happens. Not ideal when you’re having a party and everyone has to wait while you set up for a group shot. There’s lag between what you seen on screen and where you’re pointing the RE, too. It’s OK if you make slow movements, but anything more than that and you have to wait a few seconds on a frozen frame while the phone catches up. It’s no different to our experience with the Sony Lens camera or a phone-connected GoPro, but it just makes it that bit harder to get the shot you want.

HTC exec explains why the One M9 carries over industrial design from the M8 - Options For Fundamental Details For mobile phones

The app can straighten wide-angle photos. It’s fast and results good The app provides various other tweaks and settings, including the resolution of photos – 8.3, 12 and 16-megapixel – and videos, and a wide-angle lens toggle. Advanced settings include digital video stabilisation and firmware updates. This is where you should update the RE if you’re having the connection issues we experienced.

Convenient Systems In mobile phones - HTC exec explains why the One M9 carries over industrial design from the M8

Oddly these firmware updates can only be downloaded while connected to the RE. They’re only a few megabytes in size, but we’d still prefer not to have our mobile data leached for this task. The app gallery lets you upload images to your favourite social media outlet and straighten the fish-eye effect caused by the wide-angle lens. The RE app uses software to do this, but it’s fast and you wouldn’t notice a photo’s been straightened.

HTC exec explains why the One M9 carries over industrial design from the M8

Very clever indeed. HTC RE – Picture Quality The 16-megapixel 1/2.3-inch sensor on the RE isn’t too far off the specs of the Galaxy Note 4’s camera. There’s no optical zoom or optical image stabilisation (OIS). The lack of OIS is a bit of a problem.

For a camera meant to be used on the go and to capture moments as they happen, the RE doesn’t cope well with movement. If your hand is moving more than a little when you take a picture, the result will be a blurry mess. When we first got the RE the ease with which you can take pics made us a bit blase.

We’d swing our arms around or walk and take a pic. Suffice to say this doesn’t work. You still need to treat the RE like a camera – you need to frame your shot and stand still. So what’s the point of having the RE if you’ve already got a top smartphone with a decent snapper? Aside from the convenience and ease with which you can use the RE, it also has a 146-degree wide-angle lens that lets you take in a whole lot more of the scenery.

The proof is in the pictures, though, so we took the RE out to Las Vegas to get some shots as you would on holiday.

Security fears kill deal between NFL team and Huawei to add Wi-Fi to stadium

9 – First Impressions from CES 2015 Mad Catz has always done things a little differently. The Rat gaming mouse looked like nothing before it when first launched 5 years ago, but has proven its staying power with a version, the Rat Pro X, announced at CES 2015. PC and console gaming is all well and good, but those markets aren’t growing; they’re flatlining. Mobile gaming on the other hand is going from strength to strength and it’s more than just casual gaming that’s fuelling the growth. Games such as BioShock and FIFA look and play great on phones and tablets – that is, if you have the right controller.

Security fears kill deal between NFL team and Huawei to add Wi-Fi to stadium

So it’s not quite such a surprise that Mad Catz has announced an incredible mobile controller for those wanting the very best experience across mobile, tablet and even smart TVs. It’s called the Mad Catz L.Y.N.X. 9 and it’s part Swiss Army knife, part transformer, part Lego Technic and entirely bonkers. But bonkers in a good way. Let’s leave the hefty £250/$300 price tag to one side for a moment and have a look at everything (and there’s a lot) that the L.Y.N.X. 9 has to offer. “Mobile controllers have always been compromised. They’ve either been small enough to carry but flimsy, or they’ve been full-sized controllers – but those aren’t perfectly portable,” Alex Verrey, Global PR and Communications Director for Mad Catz, told TrustedReviews at CES 2015 in Las Vegas.

Comparing No-Hassle Advice For smartphone - Security fears kill deal between NFL team and Huawei to add Wi-Fi to stadium

The Mad Catz L.Y.N.X. 9 attempts to combat this by folding into a smart little package. We’ve seen this sort of thing before on the likes of the Phonejoy gamepad, which is a nifty little mobile controller, but the L.Y.N.X. 9 is on another level entirely. It consists of three core components – a ‘left wing’, a ‘right wing’ and the controller’s ‘brain’ – which can be rearranged to work with a phone or joined to the included tablet stand. This can accommodate tablets with screen sizes of up to 7 inches. Connect the L.Y.N.X. 9 to a Smart TV or desktop PC and you get a controller that runs rings around remote controls.

Realistic Advice In mobile phones - A Closer Look - Security fears kill deal between NFL team and Huawei to add Wi-Fi to stadium

Aside from the keyboard the Mad Catz L.Y.N.X. 9 includes a mouse control sensor near the top of the controller, with left and right mouse buttons. It takes a little getting used to, but works well, floating the cursor around just like the pointer stick on a Lenovo ThinkPad does. Still not enough inputs for you? Well you could always just keep the right thumbstick pressed to activate the microphone.

Fast Methods In smartphone Revealed - Security fears kill deal between NFL team and Huawei to add Wi-Fi to stadium

Yes, that’s right, the L.Y.N.X. 9 comes with a mic built into it, too. In terms of design the L.Y.N.X. 9 is a serious piece of kit. Predominantly made of metal, it both feels and looks the part. Slot the ‘fins’ into the hand-grips and it feels similar to the Sony DualShock 4 in terms of ergonomics. With 30 hours of stamina the Mad Catz L.Y.N.X. 9 puts the PS4 controller’s battery life to shame, though.

Security fears kill deal between NFL team and Huawei to add Wi-Fi to stadium

The analogue sticks are responsive and solid, the buttons and D-pad are spot-on and the keyboard is as good as an old-school BlackBerry. A quick bash of Dead Trigger and Beach Buggy Blitz on a Samsung phone provided a fun and precise experience. We only have one gripe with the design and that’s the triggers. These don’t offer anywhere near the travel of the PS4 or Xbox One controllers and don’t look quite as robust as the rest of the L.Y.N.X. 9. Saying that, the model we played with was a prototype, not the finished version, so I expect further improvements before release. Something we can’t ignore is the plethora of parts that are begging to be misplaced.

The Mad Catz L.Y.N.X. 9 doesn’t come with a carry case to keep all the bits you aren’t using, so you’ll run the risk of losing a fin or cable. OK, let’s tackle that price tag. The L.Y.N.X. 9 is ludicrously expensive – more expensive than quite a few smartphones. It clearly isn’t for everyone; it’s a luxury toy, but it’s a brilliantly designed one that’s packed with features.

The final version will even include a MHL adapter and HDMI cable so you can hook up your phone or tablet to your TV and game on the big screen. Compatibility is currently limited to Android and Windows, so if you’ve got an iPhone 6 you won’t be able to enjoy the L.Y.N.X. 9.

That means that you can download it and use it as you wish. When you buy an Android smartphone, what you are really paying for is the hardware itself and any customizations the company has done. Personally, I love using free and open source software that gives me the freedom to do what I want. For example, if you want to flash your phone with another version, you can do it. This freedom, in my mind, makes Android worth it more than anything. Choosing an Android Smartphone Now that you’ve decided to choose an Android smartphone, you have to decide which Android smartphone to buy. Now this one could be an article unto its own, but I wanted to take a few minutes to sum up how you should make your decision. In many ways, I believe it can come down to two things – features and price.

Toshiba phones

Remember, there are Android smartphones at virtually every price point, from the ultra-cheap to the premium price tags that rival the iPhone and they all come with a different feature set. Budget The first thing you must do is decide on a budget. If you are okay with spending a premium on your device, or you are the type that keeps smartphones for a long time, then maybe you should spend a little more. In these cases, a premium phone just makes the most sense. However, if you are on a budget, you should look at some of the more affordable options out there. Once you get closer to knowing and understanding how much you want/can spend, it’s time to look at features.

Toshiba phones - Critical Elements For mobile phones - The Inside Track

All of the different Android smartphones will come with different features, but there will be some overlap. For example, all of them will come with a version of Android that will power the basics with ease, but not all of them will include extra features such as high-end processors that can power the latest games without lag. Your Usage Try to determine how you will use your smartphone and what apps you want to use. If you only use the basics, and just want a phone that works, then you probably don’t need to drop a big chunk of change on a premium Android device. However, if you tweak your system, use it for your main connection to the Internet, or like to play games, I think it’s wise to drop a little more money on one of the higher end Android devices.

Aspects Of smartphone - An Analysis - Toshiba phones

The Interface Once you decide that, it’s time to look at interfaces. Some devices, such as the Google Pixel line, comes with a traditional Android interface. However, Samsung uses its own TouchWiz interface that is similar, but still very different. Some users love it, others hate it. You may need to visit a store and play with the different options to make your decision. While you can always change it on any device, if you don’t like to tinker or you aren’t sure what to do, it can be a daunting task.

Check Out Reviews After you have narrowed down your Android devices based on price, features, usage and the interface, I encourage you to read about your final choices. Check out the reviews to see both the good and the bad about the devices so you know what you are getting into before you make your purchase. There are many great Android devices out there, but nothing is perfect.

Toshiba phones

But, I’m confident that there is a perfect Android device for YOU, and the reviews will help you determine that. Make Your Decision Once you figure out and understand all these factors, then it’s time to make your decision and buy your Android smartphone. I guarantee if you take all of these factors into consideration, you will make the right decision and love the Android device you have chosen. Parting Thoughts There are many great smartphones out there, and both Apple and Android have tons of amazing options out there for you. Which one you choose is up to you. Android is one of the most powerful mobile platforms today, and with all these great reasons to buy an Android, it’s understandable that is the most popular option out there today. Do you use an iPhone or an Android tablet?

While the iPhone may have an edge in the gaming segment, there are still more than enough games available on the Play Store to keep you distracted for hours on end. Add to that all the different apps out there for productivity, including web browsing, text messaging, email and pretty much everything in between, and you will find you have more apps to choose from compared to the App Store. If you love downloading and trying apps or finding a great game to distract you when you have a little downtime, it’s tough to beat the Google Play Store and all the apps that are available for your Android smartphone. 3. Better Customization This is perhaps my favorite reason for using Android. With Android, you can almost everything about your smartphone experience.

Two senators want to investigate whether ZTE again failed to comply with U.S. sanctions

This includes things like which email app you use, what app you use for text messaging, what browser you prefer, and more. You can even change the launcher to alter how your device looks, feels, and reacts to your touch. In recent years, Apple has begun to allow you to some of these aspects, but they are still very far behind Android in the world of customization. Now, this customization isn’t for everyone, as you have to be prepared to tinker with your device to get everything to work the way you want it, but for anyone like me who loves to customization, tweak and tinker, you won’t find a better choice than Android.

4. Google Service Integration I love Google services. I’m a huge user of apps such as Google Docs, Google Maps and even G Suite. Many of these apps and services are built right into Android and come with your device. That means you won’t have to spend time ing for each app or service you may need on your device before you start using it. Sure, you can find pretty much anything you need on the App Store, as Google makes their apps and services available for the iPhone, but if you want a streamlined, seamless integration and you don’t want to spend forever downloading what you need, Android is definitely the way to go. Google makes tons of great apps, so why not take advantage of their power by use them seamlessly with Android?

5. Price Now I know some of you will probably disagree with me on this one. However, hear me out. The iPhone X is the most expensive smartphone out there, running consumers well over $1,000. Now, there are many premium smartphones such as the Galaxy S9 from Samsung that cost almost as much as the iPhone, and the Google Pixel 2 comes close to matching the iPhone in terms of price, but because of all the other options out there, you don’t have to drop a bundle for a decent smartphone. In fact, there are many smartphones out there that are very affordable and for as little as $100 you can find a smartphone that will meet your needs. Sure, you have to make sacrifices on what you get for a smartphone to be this cheap, even powered by Android.

Introducing Sensible smartphone Products - Two senators want to investigate whether ZTE again failed to comply with U.S. sanctions

But the point is it’s available. If you are shopping on a tight budget, you may not want to drop a grand just to be able to text and call your friends and family. With Android, you have that choice so you can find a smartphone without destroying your wallet in the process.

6. Better Hardware Support We all know how iPhones work these days. They will allow you to plug them into a PC and use iTunes to interact with them, but many of their hardware features are really built for macOS. At the end of the day, Apple only wants you using their hardware for everything, and it shows with their design philosophies.

Some of the coolest iPhone features will only work if you have a Mac, and the integration on the PC is very limited. The same can’t be said about Android. It will interact with your hardware in the same ways whether you have a Windows PC, Linux or macOS. Of course, Android doesn’t have some of the cool features that an iPhone does when you use a Mac, but knowing that you can use it with any type of computer is refreshing, and you don’t have to worry about missing out on something cool just because you wouldn’t pay the Apple tax on your hardware. 7. Free and Open Source I know it doesn’t seem like Android is free, but the fact is the Android operating system is built upon free and open source software.

So what do you do? I will show you. What is iPhone Throttling? So what is iPhone throttling, you ask? It’s pretty simple. When your iPhone detects that your battery has degraded, even a little bit, the software automatically throttles your iPhone. That means that the software artificially slows down your iPhone so it doesn’t run at its top performance. The idea is that the iPhone will then perform decently but it won’t shut down on you unexpectedly due to your battery degradation. Now that sounds all well and good on paper.

But the end result is that your iPhone may seem slower or sluggish while you are using it, and that’s not a good thing. What’s even worse is that Apple didn’t bother telling anybody that they did it, and for awhile there was no way you could tell if it was happening or not. That’s why they got in so much trouble with the throttling in the first place. But now, you can see if your iPhone is being throttled thanks to the latest update in iOS. I will show you how to check if your iPhone is throttled and how you can disable it so your phone doesn’t slow down just because your battery has lost a little of its juice. Disable Throttling To check and then disable throttling, follow these easy steps.

Tap on Settings. Tap on the Battery Select Battery Health (Beta). On the following screen, you will see the maximum battery capacity of your iPhone.

If the battery capacity is at 80% or your iPhone has unexpectedly shutdown, you will see the following message: “…performance management has been applied to prevent this from happening again.” So what does that mean? That means you have fallen victim to iPhone throttling either because the battery of your iPhone has degraded or because there was an unexpected shutdown.

But now you will also see a choice to turn CPU throttling off. Turn it off and your iPhone will run at full power again. Now remember, if your phone has another unexpected shutdown after you have turned this off, your iPhone will automatically turn this “feature” on again. So you will have to revisit these settings and disable it once again. Unfortunately, at the time of this writing there is no way to disable it permanently no matter what your iPhone does. Perhaps an update in the future?

Of course, if you keep experiencing the problem, you can always visit Apple and get a battery for your device for only $29. You must make an appointment and take your iPhone to the closest Apple store to do it. Parting Thoughts Apple got quite a bit of bad press on this “feature”, and rightly so. They should have let their customers know what they were doing from the beginning. But at least now there is a way to disable the feature, even if it will annoyingly come back on if your iPhone shuts down on you. What do you think about this feature? Should Apple do more or is it fine the way it is? Tell me your thoughts in the comments below. ABOUT THE AUTHOR ONAPRIL 17 "RAZER’S GAMING SMARTPHONE IS PERFECT IN EVERY WAY, EXCEPT ONE" Razer’s Gaming Smartphone Is Perfect In Every Way, Except One Razer has long been known for its top-notch PC gaming hardware, spanning from ultra-slim laptops to desktop behemoths, and has garnered quite the fanbase over the years. Understandably, therefore, the company’s decision to acquire the smartphone startup Nextbit at the start of 2017 was a little surprising.

But after eleven months of hard work, something finally came out of that bold move: The Razer Phone. Like the other releases in Razer’s line-up, the Razer Phone is built with gamers in mind. Sure, it deviates from the direct and somewhat ludicrous approach that devices like the Nokia N-Gage and the Samsung SPH-B5200 employed back in the day, but it has enough going for it to please the average mobile gamer.

Well, almost enough. Overview If you’ve seen the Nextbit Robin, you will likely find the Razer smartphone very familiar. Instead of plastic, however, Razer has wrapped its offering in anodised aluminium. The power button on the side is fitted with a fingerprint scanner, which is admirably accurate and snappy.

A SIM and microSD combo slot sits right above the power button.

Casio announces its WearOS-powered WSD-F30 PRO Trek smartwatch releases in early 2019

Casio announces its WearOS-powered WSD-F30 PRO Trek smartwatch releases in early 2019

But do you know how to update your apps to gain access to the latest features of your apps and the latest bug fixes to prevent those annoying crashes? Today let’s look at how to update Android apps on your Android smartphone so you can make sure you always have the latest and greatest versions of all your Android apps. Why Update Your Apps? If you are wondering why you should bother updating your apps, here is your answer. Developers are constantly tweaking and improving their apps and I’m pretty sure you want all the latest features in the apps you use, especially if you’ve paid for them.

Casio announces its WearOS-powered WSD-F30 PRO Trek smartwatch releases in early 2019

On top of that, developers consistently patch their apps to fix bugs and update their compatibility with releases of Android. If you don’t update your apps, you could find that they will start giving you problems or may not work at all without the latest update. Update Android Apps Automatically This is by far the easiest method for updating your apps, but you must be careful. Using this method could use more data and even take up more space on your smartphone as the apps increase in size.

The Latest On Quick Plans In cell phones - Casio announces its WearOS-powered WSD-F30 PRO Trek smartwatch releases in early 2019

1. Open the Play Store. 2. Tap Menu (Three lines). 3. Tap on Settings. 4. Tap Auto-update apps.

5. Select how you want Google to auto update your apps. I prefer the update apps on Wi-Fi only option to avoid data charges. Update Android Apps Manually Using this method gives you full control over when, where, and which apps get updated on your smartphone. The downside is you must do it yourself and, if you don’t, you could end up with an app that doesn’t work right or even causes problems for your smartphone. 1. Open the Play Store.

2. Tap Menu (Three lines). 3. Tap on My apps & games. 4. Apps with updates will be listed. 5. Select the app you want to update and tap Update or select Update all to update all your apps.

Manual or Automatic? I’ve now shown you how to manually update and setup automatic updates. But which should you use? Personally, I use automatic updates that ensures all my updates run whenever I’m on Wi-Fi. This avoids data charges but keeps me up to date. However, you may want more control over how your device is updated and what is run with or without your permission. There’s nothing wrong with that at all. If you want more control over what does and doesn’t get updated on your device, I suggest you use manual updates.

This will allow you to control what you update and it will allow you to run the updates when it is most convenient for you, and not when the Play Store decides the time is right. Final Thoughts At the end of the day, the choice is up to you. That’s what Android is all about, anyway. However, I strongly suggest that you keep your apps up to date so you have access to all the latest features and bug fixes on your favorite apps whenever you need them. Do you use automatic or manual updates?

Sound off in the comments below and tell me how you handle updates on your Android smartphone. EarPods were often lambasted for their meagre sound, and while there is some definite improvement here, they’re far from what would describe as ‘great sounding headphones’. For audiophiles these ain’t. As with lot of these completely wireless earbuds there’s a noticeable lack of crispness in instruments and detail in vocals. But, there’s a lot more bass when compared to the older EarPods and most sub-£100 earbuds. The bass isn’t too harsh either, and it doesn’t overshadow the other parts of a song. I’d say the bass is much more manageable than Beats cans, which often ruin genres of music that aren’t hip-hop. Related: Best Bluetooth speakers Music with a very engineered sound – chart pop, for example – actually sounds quite impressive and there’s plenty of clarity in electronic beats that you wouldn’t get on EarPods. Pump the volume up to full whack and this will quickly disappear, but that’s hardly a surprise.

Issues do arise when running with the Apple AirPods, as ambient noises overtake the audio thanks to poor sound isolation. If the AirPods aren’t stuck right into your ears, it’s easy for other noises to wash away the sound. I love my Bose QC35 and I know our Homes Editor Ced swears by the excellent Sony MDR-1000X, but even the best Bluetooth headphones still suffer issues.

Audio is prone to cutting out when you put the phone in your pocket, and pairing is a cumbersome affair of pressing buttons and hoping the connection is made. Most of what makes the AirPods so exciting is the W1 chip tucked inside that solves both of these issues. It’s the same chip that’s inside the Beats Studio 3 Wireless and will feature in many more of Apple’s headphones down the line. Pairing is a simple task of opening the battery case, popping them next to your iPhone and waiting. A message will appear, tap ‘connect’ and you’re done.

What’s even cooler is that those AirPods are now connected to every other iPad, MacBook and Apple Watch signed in with your iCloud account. I opened up my MacBook and there they were, sitting in the Bluetooth menu. Range is excellent too, and audio never seems to drop, which isn’t something you can say about Bluetooth which as a technology is prone to momentary drops and digital blips. There are a bunch of accelerometers inside, too, just like an iPhone.

These know when you put the AirPods in and start the music, and they pause when you remove one. You can keep one bud in the case and all audio will be routed through the one in your ear. Tap on the centre and Siri will pop up too, but due to Siri still being mostly rubbish I can’t say I use this feature much. Apple’s voice-assistant is still too slow and misunderstands me too often to make it worthwhile to stick with, and having it be the only way to skip tracks and alter the volume without reaching for my phone is annoying. I would like some virtual controls on the buds, but we’ll have to wait for version 2 for that. They are not exclusively for iPhones and iOS either, with Android support being decent if not quite as good. You won’t benefit from the easy setup, or Siri integration, but the connection is still rock-solid and battery life just as good.

Both the refurbished Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are available for $390 and up today only

Apple AirPods – Battery life and charging case While audio quality isn’t one of the Apple AirPods’ best attributes, battery life certainly is. Apple’s claim of five hours worth of juice per charge for the buds is almost bang on, though this does drop a bit if you’re on the phone a lot. Five hours might not seem that impressive, but you’ve got to take into account the included charging case can fully charge the AirPods about five times. This gives you around 24 hours when all’s said and done, which is quite a lot better than the competition. Motorola’s Verveones+, a similar set of wireless buds, are more expensive and offer just 12 hours of playback when you’re using the charging case.

It’s a similar story with the Sol Republic Amp Airs, which lasted about 2.5-3 hours in our tests. Once the case is dead, plug in a Lightning cable and it’ll juice back up. It’s all very seamless. A 15 minute charge in the case also gives you a good few hours of listening, so it’s actually quite difficult to be without charge.

While it’s relatively very low, we’re in near constant exposure to our mobile phones almost 24 hours a day and my own phone is almost never out of arms reach, even when I’m asleep. This low-level radiation must surely add up over time and we still just don’t have the data to know the long-term effects. However, our best guesses suggest that the potential impact can’t be too devastating otherwise we’d probably be seeing more precautions being taken by healthcare professionals and authorities. However, if every GP you know suddenly goes back to writing letters then it might be best to put the old Candy Crush down. If you’re in the market for a smartphone be sure to check our Best Smartphones of 2018. Not all smartphone are made equal in the radiation department.

If you’re particularly health conscious and are wondering which smartphones produce more radiation than others, the analysts over at Statista have put together the top 10 smartphones that emit the most radiation in watts per kilogram. The German certification for environmental friendliness ‘Der Blaue Engel’ (Blue Angel) only awards certifications to phones that come in at under 0.6 watts per kilogram, and as you can see below, some of these phones are way over that. The Chinese phones seem to be the worst offenders but you may be surprised to see Apple phones up there too. ONAUGUST 29 "THE BEST SAMSUNG GALAXY S9 SCREEN PROTECTORS" The Best Samsung Galaxy S9 Screen Protectors First on the list is Zagg’s Invisible Shield Glass Curve Elite protector. Yes, it’s a wordy title, but that’s hardly a shortcoming for all it achieves. It’s a tempered glass adhesive that has a shock absorbent layer.

It’s, of course, scratch and fingerprint resistant too and is supposed to be Zagg’s strongest protector yet. It’s curved, like the Galaxy S9, to allow precise edge-to-edge coverage. Besides these benefits, it preserves touch sensitivity and remains fully clear on application (so no annoying air bubbles). Zagg offers a limited lifetime warranty on this protector, so if it ever does get damaged you can get a replacement (provided you own the device). But that doesn’t mean we aren’t fans of the Galaxy S9. The Galaxy S9 earned an impressive 4.5 stars out of 5 and the “Tech Advisor Recommended” badge – and for good reason. The S9 features an Exynos 9810 octa-core chip that churns out powerful performance. All of this is hooded under an all glass body and a 5.8in curved glass screen.

The screen is one of the best we’ve seen and brighter than the S8 too. Here are some of the best screen protectors for the S9. The glass body does make it slippery, but there are tonnes of cases available (see the best ones here), making grip a non-issue. The S9 is equipped with a fingerprint and iris scanner as well, and an excellent 12Mp camera that can automatically switch apertures based on the shooting conditions, making it ideal for low light conditions. Other features include Super Slow Motion, AR Emojis and fast charging on a 3,000mAH battery (though this hasn’t been upgraded from the S8). The design is similar to the S8 with subtle improvements, such as smaller bezels above and below the screen.

It’s also a bit shorter and heavier than its predecessors, though we didn’t think this made much of a difference.
